A tattoo is a type of permanent body modification made by inserting ink into the skin to change its pigment. Tattoos are generally made for decoration purposes when they are put onto humans and are even sometimes used for identification on animals and prisoners who go to jail. Tattoos can be imprinted on many different parts of a person’s body, such as their arm, chest, back, leg and face. Tattoos are practiced worldwide and have been practiced by people for thousands of years dating back to Neolithic times (about 9500 BC). Tattooing has become an art to the people who practice it and the tattooists, artists, as it requires detail, patience and practice to master the art of tattooing. Tattoos are also used to represent a spiritual and emotional connection. They can symbolise love, bravery, rank, status and allegiances. Tattoos are common in culture such as gangs where they can be used to represent the gangster’s status and rank and other information such as how many people he has killed and if he has served time. Tattoos have recently become known in popular culture. There are shows that depict and center on the art of tattooing and the tattoo artists. Tattooing can add to and compliment your personality and image that you represent if you choose the correct one. Tough looking tatoos such as a tribal design tatoo can be uses as a method of looking tough and can be used to scare away trouble before it even finds you.
